Kylie Jenner going in for a second kiss was a complete unknown to Timothée Chalamet.
During the 70th David Di Donatello Awards in Rome—where the couple made their red carpet debut—May 7, Timothée missed an extra kiss from the Kardashians star after his award for cinematic excellence was announced.
In footage from the evening, Timothée, 29, and Kylie, 27, did share one quick kiss as he got up to accept his award. However, when the Khy founder went in for one more peck, Timothée had already moved on to shaking hands of the attendees around the couple, leaving Kylie to kiss the air around her boyfriend’s neck.
But despite the awkward moment, the pair’s evening was otherwise full of romance. After all, the couple proudly posed for step-and-repeat photos at the event for the first time, with Timothée posing with one arm around Kylie’s waist as she leaned into her man.
And afterward, Timothée and Kylie made up for the blunder tenfold as they enjoyed a romantic night in the Italian city, leaving Zuma Restaurant—a haunt known for contemporary Japanese cuisine—hand-in-hand alongside the Dune star’s father Marc Chalamet.
The pair’s milestone came just days after fans were disappointed to miss a red carpet moment for them at the Met Gala. While Kylie—who sported a gorgeous tailored Ferragamo gown—attended the event with sisters Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner, Timothée opted to tune in to the New York Knicks vs. Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, which he highlighted on social media.
Despite missing that milestone, the couple are clearly going strong as ever. Timothée’s mom Nicole Flender even recently gave the romance her seal of approval. As she told New York magazine’s Curbed of Kylie earlier this month, “I have to say, she’s lovely.”
