Keanu Reeves is in for an epic adventure at the 2025 Tony Awards.
After all, the John Wick star was made a part of Jonathan Groff‘s larger-than-life medley from Just in Time with an eyebrow-raising staddle mid-song.
After beginning the tune onstage, the Glee alum was surrounded by pink-feathered burlesque dancers fanning him before he began walking into the crowd. With Keanu seated in the front row, Jonathan stood on his armrests, where he crouched lower and lower during the song, as he performed to the audience at Radio City Music Hall.
It was clear the Matrix star was happy to face the music, and Jonathan’s crouch, for the performance as he smiled and held up two sign of the horn hand gestures during the jaw-dropping moment.
After dazzling the crowd with his rendition of the songs, Jonathan—who is nominated in the Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical category for Just in Time—received a standing ovation from attendees, including his costar and fellow nominee Gracie Lawrence, as well as close friend Lea Michele. (See all the winners here.)
For Jonathan, becoming Bobby Darin for the musical required him to stretch his skillset beyond what he thought was possible.
“I was completely taken by Bobby’s primal ferocity, even on these old black-and-white clips of him performing,” he told Vogue in April. “There was a real presence and passion. This wasn’t just a rock-and-roll guy or a crooner singing songs. There was real connection in his performance style.”
With that in mind, he knew their project was going to take a different direction than those before.
“I knew I wanted to start the show as myself and break the fourth wall with the audience to create that connection that Bobby was really famous for—the vibe that we’re all here today, in this present moment, and anything can happen,” he explained. “I’m trying to evoke this real love affair between performer and audience, and that’s where the conceit of the show came from and continues to live.”
And he definitely brought that energy as he ran along the aisles of the concert venue and included the star-studded attendees.
