A horror film centering on a real-life serial-killing grandmother is set to hit theaters later this month.

Epic Pictures’ horror label Dread is set to release Dorothea in theaters on Halloween before it will be available via VOD on Nov. 4. Chad Ferrin wrote and directed the film that stars Susan Priver (Night Caller), Lew Temple (The Walking Dead), Brinke Stevens (House on Haunted Hill), Ginger Lynn (The Devil’s Rejects), Brenda James (Slither), Cassandra Gava (Conan the Barbarian), Cyril O’Reilly (Porky’s), Ezra Buzzington (The Artist) and Robert Miano (Fast & Furious).

Dorothea centers on the real-life story of Dorothea Puente (Priver), an unassuming grandmother who ran a boarding house, where she drugged, killed and buried her elderly and disabled boarders in her garden in the 1980s. The film is the second in Dread’s series of true-crime horror movies after this year’s Ed Kemper, with Richard Ramirez set for future release.

The film’s trailer, which is exclusive to The Hollywood Reporter, can be seen below.

Dorothea is the second in our series of unflinching true crime films that explore the darkest corners of human nature,” says Dread CEO Patrick Ewald, who executive produces Dorothea. “Director Chad Ferrin masterfully transports audiences to the era in which these horrifying events took place, capturing both the atmosphere and psychology of the time with a truly singular vision.”

Ewald continues, “Our next film with Chad, centered on Richard Ramirez, the Night Stalker, will push this series even further, diving deeper into the terror and truth behind one of history’s most infamous killers.”
