When the sun goes down and the moon comes up, Jenna Ortega is ready to turn into a teenage goo goo muck.
After all, Netflix shared a glimpse at the upcoming second season of Wednesday Jan. 30 that is sure to be just as strange and deranged as its first installment.
The 2025 sizzle reel—which also teases new seasons for Stranger Things, Emily in Paris, Love Is Blind and more—reveals where Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan) has been since being captured by police since his identity as the Hyde was brought to light.
Wednesday Addams, donning her Nevermore Academy uniform complete with her signature braided ‘do, enters Tyler’s room at Willowhill Psychiatric Hospital. The teenage boy, chained to the wall of his room, lifts his head to look at her.
Tyler’s admission into the facility after transforming into a hyde—a mutated monster banned from Nevermore for three decades—mirrors his late mother Francoise’s experience as a teenager. In fact, when Marilyn Thornhill (Christina Ricci) shares with Tyler his mother’s true past in the first season, she unlocks his alter ego and becomes his master.
“Tyler grew up thinking his mom had died, and that she had a mental illness, and his dad never wants to talk about it,” Hunter told Tudum after season one of Tyler’s loyalty to Marilyn and added of the academy as a whole, “He blames everyone there for the death of his mom. He feels like that part of his life was stolen and taken from him.”
While we await more details about the new season, we will see some new and exciting faces like Lady Gaga. Her role hasn’t been announced yet, but Jenna previously teased that she wanted to see the A Star is Born actress onscreen.
“I think Mrs. Thornhill and Wednesday had this weird mentor relationship or kind of understood each other in a certain way,” the 22-year-old told Variety in January 2023, “so, if Lady Gaga were to be a part, I think it would have to be two monsters that understand each other.”
As for what else we can expect from the students at Nevermore Academy?
“We’re definitely leaning into more horror,” Jenna teased to E! News last January. “It’s really, really exciting because all throughout the show, Wednesday does need a bit of an arc. She never really changes and that’s the wonderful thing about her.”
“There are some really, really good one-liners,” she added, noting that “everything’s bigger” and “more action-packed.”
The Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice star concluded, “I think each episode will probably feel a little bit like a movie, which is nice.”
