Ashlyn Harris won’t tolerate any fouls launched at Ali Krieger.
Over a year after the former couple, who share kids Sloane, 4, and Ocean, ended their marriage in September 2023, the retired soccer goalkeeper revealed that despite their messy divorce, she’ll always have respect for her ex-wife.
“It’s definitely a grieving process,” Harris said during an appearance on Rachel Bilsonand Olivia Allen’s Broad Ideas podcast on March 3. “I will say this. I will not allow people to speak—in my home, in my presence, or around my children—ill about my ex-wife or our relationship.”
The 39-year-old also explained that while being a mom is the “hardest thing she’s ever done,” her split with Ali—who she tied the knot with in 2019 after nine years together—was tougher on her mental health, especially since it came a year after she retired from Gotham FC in 2022.
Harris, who is now dating Sophia Bush, also emphasized that going through the “difficult divorce“ shifted how she navigates her emotions, a lesson she’s now teaching her two toddlers.
“I think [the divorce] was definitely the hardest season of my life, in that there was so much grief and pain,” she said of Ali, who’s now dating Scottish soccer player Jen Beattie. “I’m such a feeler, so I think it’s very important to be vulnerable and share your scars, especially for our children. I don’t want to always show up and pretend I’m OK because I don’t want them to do that to their friends, partners, me or their mom.”
The World Cup champion is also following her own rule book about being vulnerable, especially when it comes to her new career. Ashlyn launched her Wide Open podcast on iHeart Women’s Sports earlier this month, and she’s been embracing tips on how to handle the mic from her greatest mentor: her girlfriend, Sophia.
“She supports me so much,” Ashlyn told E! News on Feb. 26. “She has done podcasting and been in the entertainment space for so long, and she has continued to encourage me to be a little more forward-facing after my soccer career ended.”
Ashlyn also hinted that the One Tree Hill alum—who she went public with in March 2024, nearly a year after Sophia filed for divorce from ex-husband Grant Hughes—will appear on her show in the future, saying, “I think that will be something we do when the time is right.”
