Why a Fake Horror Trailer Starring Kiernan Shipka Will Soon Play in Theaters (Exclusive)

Movie audiences will soon witness Kiernan Shipka having trouble getting some shut-eye.

Shipka stars in a Halloween-focused campaign for sleep wellness brand Hatch, and her faux trailer, which is exclusive to The Hollywood Reporter, can be seen below. Directed by Meredith Alloway, “Goodnight, Phone” will run in select AMC and Cinemark theaters for the spooky season.

“Goodnight, Phone” centers on Ava (Shipka), who has recently moved into a new home and finds herself drawn to doom-scrolling on her phone when she should be getting rest. As she battles the demons coming to life from her phone, Ava’s partner is able to calmly fall asleep with the help of his Hatch. Co-starring in the project is Jacob Lumet Cannavale, whose parents are Bobby Cannavale and screenwriter Jenny Lumet.

“From the jump, they had such a strong idea of what they wanted to do and what they wanted to say, and it just felt like a really cool thing to be a part of,” Shipka tells THR about the campaign’s appeal. “Pretty instantly, I was happy to jump on board because the product is awesome, and the idea was really fun. I love horror.”

Shipka admits that she is just as susceptible as anyone to the draw of obsessing over a phone before bed. She praises the benefits of Hatch, which launched the Restore 3 earlier this year as a phone-free device aimed at eliminating screens from bedrooms. “Goodnight, Phone” marks Hatch’s debut on the big screen.

“Hatch really works and really helps because there has to be intentionality behind not going on the phone,” the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina alum continues. “There’s so much to do on the phone. It’s endless. I often give in to the pull. I’m totally guilty of doom-scrolling, but then I’m a worse version of myself the next day. It almost feels novel, in a way, going to bed without a phone next to me.”

After recently appearing opposite Pamela Anderson in the film The Last Showgirl, Shipka clearly needs all the sleep she can get amid her busy schedule. She joins the cast of the series Industry for its forthcoming fourth season after filming the role in London earlier this year.

“It was one of the best work experiences that I’ve ever had,” the actress says of the HBO program. “It was so fulfilling on so many levels. The scripts were amazing. I loved the character. I loved working with all those talents over there, and I made great friends, too.”

Shipka broke out as a child actress with her role of Sally Draper on AMC’s Mad Men — and never says never to a potential spinoff for the Emmy-winning series that starred Jon Hamm. As to whether there has been recent chatter about a show reviving Sally, Shipka replies, “No recent chatter, but I love Sally and always have the same stance with her. With some characters, I just have sense that it’s not over until someone says that it’s over.”

She adds, “There’s just a part of her that I feel like is still out there somewhere, so I stay down. I am always open to a conversation about it.”
