Jalen Hurts is not sure how to answer this question.
Indeed, the Super Bowl champion was left speechless when it came to detailing his plans to join his Philadelphia Eagles teammates for a visit with President Donald Trump at the White House April 28 in celebration of their Super Bowl LIX victory.
“Are you planning on visiting the White House next week?” Jalen, 26, was asked by a reporter from Time magazine during the Time100 gala in New York City on April 25, to which he awkwardly looked to his left, and then to his right before letting out an “umm” and letting the silence linger.
Jalen—who revealed this week that he married longtime love Bry Burrows—was one of several stars who stepped for the gala which celebrated the 100 Most influential People.
Celebrated as one of the magazine’s Icons, former MLB star Derek Jeter penned the tribute piece in honor of Jalen, celebrating his courage to not let his first defeat to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl in 2023 keep him from a rematch.
“In the NFL, Jalen didn’t let a Super Bowl defeat in 2023 shake his confidence,” the former New York Yankees star wrote in the essay published April 16. “He used that loss as motivation and kept a picture of himself walking off the field after losing as his phone lock screen.”
As for the Eagles’ upcoming visit to the White House, press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the team—which did not attend the White House following its 2018 Super Bowl victory after many players declined to go and Trump ultimately canceled the event—accepted the president’s invitation.
“I know there was a lot of fake news about an invitation that wasn’t sent or was sent, we want to correct the record, we sent an invitation,” Karoline said during a March 11 press briefing. “They enthusiastically accepted, and you will see them here on April 28.”
Coach Nick Sirianni, meanwhile, expressed his excitement for the team’s upcoming visit to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
“What an honor,” the head coach told reporters April 1. “What an honor to be able to go to the White House. Teams that have been able to win championships have been doing that for a long time, and I’m really honored to go and really excited to go.”
