Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco had SZA doing a double take.
Alongside a series of photos of her and her fiancé at Lil Dicky—real name David Burd—and Kristin Batalucco’s wedding, Selena captioned her August 10 Instagram post, “About last night’s wedding.”
And since the Only Murders in the Building star announced her engagement to the music producer just last year, the “Kill Bill” singer assumed for a moment that the two had tied the knot.
“This caption…I panicked so crazy,” SZA quipped in the comments before adding, “Yay Dave!!!”
The couple’s wedding date night comes eight months after the Selena—who began dating Benny in the summer of 2023—shared that the 37-year-old had popped the question by posting several photos of herself wearing a marquise-cut diamond ring on that finger while embracing her now-fiancé.
And in the caption of the December 2024 Instagram post, she wrote, “Forever begins now…”
As for how Benny popped the question? Well, the “Who Says” singer has since detailed how it all went down.
“I thought we had a shoot that day,” Selena, 33, recalled on a March episode of Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast. “I had hair and makeup, and I was doing my regular day. I get in the car and I’m thinking to myself, ‘Where are we going?’ Because at this point, I feel like I know a lot of the studios that I go to. I just started getting a little frustrated because I was like, ‘This seems far right?'”
“I walk in,” she continued, “and all of a sudden I see no one’s in the room, and I just look at my assistant and she just shuts the door.”
And though it all seemed eerie at first, it wasn’t long before Selena noticed that a romantic proposal—complete with her favorites from Taco Bell as a picnic—was waiting for her.
“I think you envision all the things that you would do and say when someone asks you, but it is actually the craziest feeling,” the Rare Beauty founder added. “It was really special. He said the sweetest things, but I also was so shocked that it just felt unreal for a long time. I don’t know. I always dreamt of that moment, and he couldn’t have made it more perfect. It was one of the best days of my life for sure.”
While the two have yet to set a wedding date, they’ve made it clear that they are not planning to rush down the aisle.
“I think every day she’s planned a new wedding in her head,” Benny joked of Selena during a March interview with Rolling Stone. “We’re very much ‘take it one day at a time’-type of people. We’re still not over this moment.”
