Leighton Meester is going to make those good girls go bad again.

The Gossip Girl actress recently reacted to her music—which includes her 2014 album Heartstringsgoing viral over 10 years after its release, gushing to E! NewsWill Marfuggi in an exclusive interview, “It’s so great.”

And given fans’ clear appetite for her songs, Leighton also addressed whether she’d consider picking up a microphone again.

“It’s definitely something that I want to continue to do and I really enjoy doing,” Leighton added, “but I’ve been focusing a lot more on acting and my family and everything for the last handful of years.” (For more from Leighton and her Good Cop/Bad Cop costar Luke Cook, tune into E! Indeed, Leighton has been busy. On top of pursuing over 10 acting projects since releasing her last album, the EXmas star began dating now-husband Adam Brody in 2013, before tying the knot a year later. The couple has also gone on to expand their family, welcoming daughter Arlo in 2015 and a son, whose name has not been publicly shared, in 2020.

Still, the 38-year-old hasn’t left the studio for good.

“I’m always writing and I’ve done a little bit of recording,” Leighton added. “I’d like to focus a little bit more on it in the next year or so. I had so much fun when I did it. Touring was really fun. Just every little piece of it is its own little adventure and I really enjoy it and I love having this piece of work out—even when I hear it now—20-something me wrote it and it sort of morphs and changes meaning.”

Despite music being on the backburner for now, Leighton couldn’t contain her delight over fans still enjoying her songs, adding, “I’m still really proud of it and I’m so grateful like any work that anyone would find it relevant.”

And while Leighton is currently busy promoting her new show Good Cop/Bad Cop, which hit The CW on Feb. 19, her costar Luke is one of the many fans vying for her musical comeback, interjecting, “I want a full resurgence of your music and I’m going to make it happen on TikTok.”

Meanwhile, Leighton is also just happy to spend time with her family and on set—which, luckily for her, intertwined when Adam made a cameo on the series.

I love his work and to be around him—it’s very natural,” Leighton gushed of her husband’s time on set. “It doesn’t ever feel unnatural to just move our personal life onto set. We’ve done it many times, and I hope we get the opportunity again.”
